Evaluation of Antidiabetic Activities of Scorzonera Species on Alloxan Induced Diabetic Mice

Objective: In Turkish folk medicine, different species of Scorzonera (Asteraceae) have been used in the treatment various disorders. The study aimed to investigate antidiabetic activity and if rutin is primary component responsible this activity. Methods: extracts aerial parts tomentosa, S. mollis ssp. szowitsii, suberosa suberosa, eriophora, acuminata, sublanata cana var. jacquiniana were experiment. Additionally, rutin, which has analysed detected by using HPLC qualitatively quantitatively some species, was also tested for its same conditions. An alloxaninduced diabetic mice test model order verify Antidiabetic activities 9 groups (n=5; each) measured at four times: before after 1, 2 4 hours treatments. Results: extract exhibited highest 100 mg/kg dose, it significantly reduced blood glucose levels treatments when compared isotonic saline solution group (diabetic control group). displayed notable decrease treatment. Oral administration of methanolic extract of kernals (0.1 and 0.3g/kg body weight) significantly lowered the blood glucose levels.
